Mapping the River Aire…

As part of our new topic ‘Leodis to Leeds’, this week we learnt that the River Aire flows through Leeds. We learnt that the source of the River is in Malham and the mouth is where the River meets the River Ouse. We learnt that the River starts at Malham Tarn then travels underground to the spring at Airehead. We learn that the River gets wider as it gets closer to the mouth. We learnt the new word ‘meanders’. The children worked with a partner to map out the source and the mouth of the river and showed how the river width changes and meanders. Perhaps you could visit Malham with your families one sunny weekend…
