We all thoroughly enjoyed expressing our creativity this week by creating an amazing web after being inspired by the story ‘The Spider Weaver’. This involved lots of different skills including mark making, sketching , observational drawings, olour mixing, printing, sewing and layering.
To celebrate National Poetry Day year 2 learnt and recited the poem ‘ The River’ by Valerie Bloom.
In History this week we have been busy looking at buildings in Leeds, some from roughly 200 years ago and some from the modern day. We identified features and some similarities and differences before ordering them chronologically.
This week we have been innovating the story ‘Kassim and the Greedy Dragon’. We innovated on a story map. We decided to change the main characters in the story, some of the settings in the story and also the special objects the main character finds. We also came up with alternative adjectives and verbs.
Next week, we will be writing our innovated versions of the story.
This week we started our new talk 4 writing text ‘Kassim and the Greedy Dragon’. We started off the week making paper dragons ? which got the children very excited about the story.
We then listened to the story and explored the meaning of new vocabulary such as ‘singed’, ‘steel’, ‘coat tails’ and ‘daggers’.
To help us remember the story we performed the story together adding actions to key parts. We then created our own story maps using pictures and key words. Next week, we will be innovating the story.
