Story mapping in 2C…

In English we have been hooking with the book ‘Meerkat Mail’. This week we have continued to learn the story, retelling orally with actions. To help us remember the main parts of the story, we created our own story maps using pictures and key words and phrases.

This week in 2C…

On Friday we learnt about St George’s day. We listened to the story of ‘George and the dragon’.

As part of our ‘Seeds of wonder’ topic. This week in science we learnt the names of common plants and flowers found in the UK. We then explored the school grounds to see which plants and flowers we could identify and name. We then carried out observational drawings.

Reading for pleasure in the sunshine… ☀️ ?

Authors in 2C…

Today we have all been authors. We innovated the story ‘The further adventures of the owl and the pussy cat’. Firstly, we planned our own stories using a story hand. We decided to change the characters to our own 2 animals who lose something special to them. They then go on an adventure to find their lost item. We then shared our plans with our friends. Today, we wrote our stories, adding illustrations to each part of our story. We then read our stories to each other and shared with the rest of the class. Some wonderful writing 2C!

Amazing Art Work…

After reading the poem ‘The Owl and the Pussycat‘, Year 2 were very excited to find out what happens to them both after they got married. We have all loved reading the beginning of the story ‘The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat’ by Julia Donaldson.

In the story, the owl and pussycat wake up to discover that their wedding ring has been taken.

Although we, as the reader, know that it was the crow who took the ring, the owl and pussycat haven’t yet solved the mystery. They set off on their adventure to locate the thief.

The children enjoyed making their own relief collage of the two characters using several cutting techniques and using paper in different ways to make it stand off the page. Here is a sample of some of our amazing artwork…
