what a wonder world…

We have had a great week in 2C and the pupils have managed the warmer climate brilliantly!

In our writing lessons the children have been continuing with looking at detailed character descriptions and how to write them, focusing on the description of the giant in Jack and The Beanstalk. They have

begun to pick it apart and identify what features of the text make it a good character description to include this in their writing next week.

In our Maths lessons, the children have been exploring looking at unit fractions and non-unit fractions this week. They have found the difference between these different types of fractions and have become better at placing numbers accurately in the numerator and denominator section.

In Science last week, the children planted their seeds. We are now monitoring the growth of these seeds weekly and are hoping to see some lovely wildflowers shortly in our area.

This week, we learnt the names of common UK plants and flowers. We then went into the school grounds and identified lots of these. We then carried out observational drawings.

In art, we imitated the work of a local artist & botanist from the 1700’s – James Bolton. We imitated his art work ‘The painted iris & summer snow drop’.

2C have settled in to their first week back of summer term. They were very excited to be back in school. In English this week, the children independently completed a character description of a monster. They also started a new text called, Jack’s Great Escape based on the book, Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have been creating and learning actions to help them remember the text.

In our Maths lessons, we have been continuing our learning journey discovering fractions. The children have been exploring wholes and finding a whole. We have also been learning about unit fractions such as ¼ and non-unit fractions such as 2/3. We will be moving onto look at recognising the equivalence of a half and two quarters nextweek.

In Science, we have been exploring different types of plant seeds. We have planted some ‘seeds of wonder’. The pupils are excited to see what plant starts to grow!

Another great week in 2C…

We’ve finally reached the end of a very busy half term! This week, the children completed a setting description based on the text the Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat written by Julia Donaldson. They have worked hard to vary their sentences and include adjectives and adverbs to make their writing engaging.

The pupils also finished their Owl & Pussy cat inspired art work as seen in the photos.

In Geography, the children designed a map which showed the location of an owl and a pussycat. The children used their knowledge of compass points and co-ordinates to help them with the task.

Next term, the children will be exploring plants as part of their science unit. Being able to spot and name some common plants during the Easter break would be helpful. The maths unit will continue to be fractions. Mentioning halves, thirds and quarters when sharing amounts would assist your child’s mathematical knowledge.

Ready, steady, cook….

This week, the children have been busy practising their culinary skills in Room 17. The children planned and made a delicious healthy mealthat included ingredients from several food groups. They made a delicious ‘healthy’ soup that included the main food groups; beans, parsnips, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, onions and potatoes.
we had mixed opinions about the finished product but I was so impressed that every single child had a taste!

Another busy week in 2C…

This week has been a rather big week in school this week. We had our Nowruz celebration on Wednesday morning and it was a roaring success! Over 100 parents and children attended the celebration and joined in with eating, dancing and celebrations to bring in the spring season. To all of those who attended and dressed up we wanted tosay a big thank you.

In writing, the children have finally finished their fact file hot write on Healthy Eating . Next week, we are hooking with the Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat written by Julia Donaldson and we will be writing a setting description story about a fantasy island.

In art this week we have started our relief collage. This is inspired by artist Rob Ryan. Today we have started our owl & the pusdy cat relief collage, creating waves & the boat. We will continue with these next week.

In maths, we have come to the end to the of the mass and capacity topic and will be moving to our fractions unit of work . This is the perfect time to get out the pizza cutter at home and practice with thechildren using the language of equal, halves & quarters

what a great week!

This week has been an amazing week in Year 2 as we have had our colour run on Thursday for our Holi celebration! The children that participated not only had lots of fun but also came back to class substantially more colourful than when they left! It was wonderful to see so many children participating in this yearly tradition of our school. Then as an extra treat we enjoyed an Indian dance session kindly arranged by Mrs Cosgrove.

We have now had our winners announced for the writing competition from World Book Day and those are Eliana, Elnaz and Ezzy. Well done to those children! They will now have their stories made into published stories for their book corners.

In writing, the children have begun to innovate from the main text and create their own fact files on staying fit and healthy. Soon they will write their hot write next week on healthy eating and diet linking in to their science and PSHE.

In maths, the children began their unit on Mass and Capacity by weighing items on scales and differentiating between grams and kilograms.

A great week in 2C!

What a great week we have had in 2C which involved pancake races on Tuesday & on Thursday the whole school celebrated World Book Day. 2C were taught by Malifecent for the day! It was fantastic to see so many children dressed up as traditional tale characters! Classes were set a writing competition. Pupils had to write a ‘Twisted Tale’. We had some fantastic stories in 2C! Winners will be announced in next Thursday’s flourishing learners celebration with winners getting their stories made into a real book for their class reading areas!

Owl Tastic! 🦉

It has been an exciting first week back. The children had the opportunity to meet some owls! The morning started with an introductory session where the children saw a barn owl. Smaller sessions took place during the day where the children were able to ask questions and had the chance to hold some of the owls. It was an informative and fun day!

Lunar Landing…

Wow! It has been an amazing term with lots of activity, hard work and enthusiasm from the children. In the previous week, they entered a space dome (in the school hall) and were enthralled by the images of space, the moon, the sun and the various planets. In writing, the pupils wrote about an explorer and described the setting. They also created an information guide on how to become an explorer. Books were read about two astronauts that the pupils were exploring in history: Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison. The children also brought in their projects from home. They worked diligently to design and create a space buggy. The final week ended with an Explorer Day Exhibition where the children showcased their work and families were invited in to see their wonderful writing, artwork and space buggies. Well done! So proud of all of you!
